A little wear to extremities and sunning o spine and board edges; otherwise a very good copy. 1948 gift inscription on first free endpaper. Illustrated by red and black pictorial title page, by 11 chromolithograph plates, including frontispiece and by 19 half page chapter heading wood engraved vignettes. Manchester reprint of the edition first published by Blackie, 1900. Based on the early English translation (published 1612), by Thomas Shelton of the novel by Cervantes (1547-1616), an abridgement made by Judge Edward Abbot Parry (1863-1943) with beautiful artwork by the artist, and illustrator, Walter Crane (1845-1915). Founded by Patrick Marrin's father George in 1946, Marrin's Bookshop has been based in its current Folkestone location since 1963. Patrick has worked in bookselling since 1970. As well as rare antiquarian books, maps and prints, the stock includes a wide range of literature, library sets, travel, history and illustrated books in all fields. We also offer a bookbinding and restoration service. Visitors to the shop are welcome and we exhibit at UK book fairs.
