A propos de cet article

A Defence of the Short View of the Profaneness and Immorality of the English Stage, &c. Being a Reply to Mr. Congreve’s Amendments, &c. And to the Vindicaiton of the Author of the Relapse. By Jeremy Collier and published in London for S. Keble. 1699. 139 pp. 7.5” x 4.75”. 12mo. Original softcover booklet bound into later hardcover boards. In good condition, with light scuffing to exterior. Hinges remain tight and text block remains bound well. Light markings. Ex-libris sticker affixed to front pastedown. Light chips along edges of title page. General age-related toning to pages, along with periodic foxing and wear. Please see photographs and ask any questions prior to purchasing. A scarce and nicely preserved work. A rare piece on the controversies arising from theologian and theatre critic Jeremy Collier’s (1650-1726) attacks of the English stage, which he considered to be riddled with immorality.
