DEGAS HUGE HARD COVER BOOK BY ROBERT GORDON & ANDREW FORGE 1988 DJ. As is my custom I often turn to the flap of the dust jacket to give you some sense of the book on offer here. This one reads: Edgar Degas was the most complex of all nineteenth-century painters. A very private man who scorned publicity, Degas remains one of the least understood artists of his generation. Although he is known for his depiction of modern subjects, racecourse scenes, café-concerts, ballet dancers, bathers, his was a classical art based upon drawing and a long study of the masters and although he exhibited with the Impressionists who were primarily landscape artists, he sought to salvage the figure as the central subject of painting. Now this new biographical and critical study…brings to light fresh insights on the art-working method and relentless eye of Degas. I am pleased to offer this book-simply titled: Degas by Robert Gordon and Andrew Forge. This very large hard cover book (10 ½ x 13 inches 288 pages) was published by Harry N. Abrams Inc of New York dated 1988. The book is as would be expected lavishly illustrated with 324 illustrations including 121 plates in full-color. Condition: This book is in near fine condition. I really can find no signs of wear or blemish. Inside the book is unmarked and the pages and plates are clean and bright throughout. Both hinges are intact, and the binding is tight and sound. This book is not ex-library or a remainder. N° de réf. du vendeur 2171
