A propos de cet article

Well-produced archaeological guide to Delphi, one of the most important sacred sites of the ancient Greek world and home of the famed Oracle of Apollo. The volume provides a concise historical overview of the sanctuary, treasury buildings, temples, theater, stadium, museum collections, and surrounding landscape. Numerous diagrams, architectural reconstructions, site plans, and color plates make it useful both as a travel guide and as a reference work on classical Greek archaeology. Particularly appealing are the period visitor ephemera preserved with the book, including two original Delphi admission tickets (70 drachma denomination) laid in, likely from the original owner's visit. Condition: Near Fine. Covers bright and clean with only minor edge wear and light rubbing; binding sound and square. Interior exceptionally clean with crisp pages and no writing observed. Small ownership stamp ('This Belongs in the Library of Michael D. Sawyer') on title page. Original Greek bookseller price sticker remains on rear flap. Two original Delphi archaeological site admission tickets laid in. No loose pages, tears, or significant defects noted. A particularly attractive surviving example of a regional archaeological guide, enhanced by its contemporary tickets and travel provenance. English-language Edition Thera issue published in Athens by G. Voutsas. No edition statement or printing number visible. Appears to be an original publisher-issued tourist edition rather than a later reprint. Dating is likely1970-1975 based on design, photography, pricing, and surviving admission tickets. Helen Franzis (1889-1981) authored several English-language guidebooks introducing major Greek archaeological and historical sites to international visitors. Her works were designed to provide accessible archaeological background while highlighting the artistic and historical significance of Greece's classical monuments and museum collections.…
