From August 18 to August 20, 1955 the Delaware River valley experienced three terrifying days and nights as two hurricanes --Connie and Diana--brought record setting rainfall that ended a drought but brought terror and destruction that tore away bridges and ripped houses from their foundations. Excessive runoff from the river's headwaters in the Catskills and the Poconos transformed the usually placid Delaware into a raging, uncontrollable beast. In the end nearly 100 people were dead nd hundreds more were homeless. Shafer's account follows the true stories of survivors and witnesses to provide the definitive account of the tragic event.
