Joshua Trachtenberg argued that medieval Christians from the 12th through 16th centuries developed an image of the Jew as a Satanic being, who did things like murder Christian children for their blood and torture Eucharists to reenact the crucifixion. Modern scholarship is not as willing as Trachtenberg to draw a straight line between medieval Christian anti-Semitism and Nazi Germany. Furthermore Trachtenberg fails to give an account of how the Christian view of Jews evolved over the centuries. That being said Trachtenberg is still a necessary introduction to the topic.
