Synopsis

More than ten years after his first bestselling book, The E-Myth, changed the lives of hundreds of thousands of small-business owners, Michael Gerber--entrepreneur, author, and speaker extraordinaire--fires the next salvo in his highly successful E-Myth Revolution. Drawing on lessons learned from working with more than 15,000 small, medium-sized, and very large organizations, Gerber has discovered the truth behind why management doesn't work--and what to do about it.

Regardless of their size or industry, most organizations seem to exist in a primarily dysfunctional state, notes Gerber. Even companies that appear to be successful suffer this same fate because management as we have come to know it is inherently flawed. What is required to truly transform both the job of the manager and the plight of the organization is nothing less than a revolution in the idea of management and its very execution.

But how does one even approach such an ambitious task? In reinventing the work of the manager, Gerber takes us back to the metaphorical birth of management, unearthing the arbitrary origins of such commonly held doctrines as:

• the omniscience of the leader (Emperor)

• the significance--and subjectivity--of implementing his Vision

• the seemingly just and logical division of labor

Perhaps most significantly, he debunks the most widely embraced managerial myth of all' that we are able to manage anyone or anything other than ourselves.

In response to these "mythperceptions," Gerber proposes a fresh, provocative alternative to management as we know it. Placing the manager at the center of the managerial universe, The E-Myth Manager asks such career-challenging and life-affirming questions as: How can you expect to feel impassioned when you're working to meet someone else's goals? How can you effectively grow your department or company and the people in it if you don't "own" it? And'perhaps most important--f you don't know what you want out of your job and your life, how can you achieve it? In response, The E-Myth Manager explores how and why every manager must take charge of her own life, reconcile her own personal vision with that of the organization, and develop an entrepreneurial mind-set for both the individual and the organization to succeed. In addition, Gerber provides a revolutionary seven-step system for success that has been implemented by thousands of E-Myth Academy clients, large and small.
