A propos de cet article

Poor condition. Collates as 1-74; missing pictorial red front and rear covers and last text leaf (pages 75-76) with first leaf present being title (i.e. pages 1-2). Staple-bound paperback: H 19.75cm x L 13.25cm. Remnants of original red paper along spine with quires exposed at ends particularly at head; strong toning/foxing and staining to initial leaves with chipping and tears to title (1-2) and Introductory (3-4) with latter having some text loss; chipping at bottom spine corners of pages 67-74 but with only 67-68 having some text loss; additional edge chipping to toned and stained pages 73-74; slight toning with some foxing and light stains/soiling to interior pages as well as scattered tears and small chips. Binding staples remain firm. Sold as is with all faults. Although born in Pennsylvania in 1833, Boggs moved to Lovington, Illinois in 1858 and served in the Union Army as a sergeant in Company K, 21st Illinois Infantry. Captured at the Battle of Chickamauga, Boggs served most of his wartime internment at Andersonville. His postwar career was successful as he entered politics in Kansas eventually serving in the state legislature and became a land speculator in Vicksburg, Mississippi where he died of a stroke in 1911.
