Jumbo octavo, [23cm/9.25inches], full library-bound brown cloth sans dust jacket, pp. xxiv, 809, indexed. Illustrated with 200+ b-w halftone plates and 4 maps &tc. Please feel free to inquire as to particulars and/or additional photographs. . Hilprecht was a German-American Assyriologist and archaeologist. In 1882, he spent two months in the British Museum studying cuneiform literature. He received his Ph.D. from Leipzig in 1883. He then spent two years in Switzerland for his health. From 1885 to 1886 he became an instructor in Old Testament theology at the University of Erlangen. In 1886, he left for the United States, where he became linguistic editor of the Sunday-School Times, and a professor of Assyrian at the University of Pennsylvania. Wiki has a good write-up on him. Etat : Acceptable. Most items will be dispatched the same or the next working day. A readable copy. All pages and the cover are intact (dust cover may be missing). Pages can include considerable notes--in pen or highlighter--but notes cannot obscure the text. An acceptable condition book written by H. V. Hilprecht. This copy has moderate wear and marks to the original red boards and front board has come loose at the top. Spine is significantly scuffed and faded. Internal contents are in excellent shape overall with clear, vivid and bright pages. This book is marked 'Acceptable' as the frontispiece is loose and the title page is missing. A few tidy annotations on the front endpage and margins, none of which obscure the text. Binding is quite tight throughout but does have a crack in the hinge by the front and back board. Overall a stellar reading copy with lovely pages and largely solid construction. Includes two beautifully kept maps within the pages towards the centre, over sixty illustrations and a detailed index.
