Excerpt: Eating disorders refer to a group of conditions defined by abnormal eating habits that may involve either insufficient or excessive food intake to the detriment of an individual's physical and mental health. Bulimia nervosa, anorexia nervosa, and binge eating disorder are the most common specific forms in the United States. Several of the above mentioned disorders, such as diabulimia, food maintenance syndrome and orthorexia nervosa, are not currently recognized as mental disorders in any of the medical manuals, such as the ICD-10 or the DSM-IV. The exact cause of Eating Disorders is unknown. However, it is believed to be due to a combination of biological, psycholoBooks on Demand GmbH, Überseering 33, 22297 Hamburg 64 pp. Englisch.
