A propos de cet article

First edition. 8vo. (x), liv, (viii), (ii), 325, (13), (2) pp. Nineteenth century brown half calf over marbled boards, spine with raised bands, gilt lettered red label to one panel and lettered direct to another, armorial bookplate of Francis Beresford Wright ("Ad Rem") to the front pastedown with his signature to the title page, above this an earlier signature - "Thos. S. Boys", the date of which is partially cropped but appears to read "1817". Very good. Wright was the second son of the John Wright, who made his fortune as a partner of the Butterley Company. On his elder brother's early demise he took on the reins of the company and maintained its considerable growth. The firm became an industrial giant in the East Midlands, being one of the largest coal and iron producers in the region. It was under Francis' auspices that the model village of Ironville in Nottinghamshire was founded to house company workers.
