Originally published in 1838, Robert Simson's work presents the first six books, together with the eleventh and twelfth of Euclid's Elements. Euclid was a Greek mathematician, of the 3rd century BC who is commonly recognised to be the 'Father of Geometry'. His Elements is possible the most famous mathematical work of classical antiquity and was used for two millennia throughout the Western world as the basic text on geometry. The thirteen books cover geometry, proportion, and number theory. Thoroughly recommended reading for the amateur and professional mathematician alike. Many of the earliest books, particularly those dating back to the 1900s and before, are now extremely scarce and increasingly expensive. We are republishing these classic works in affordable, high quality, modern editions, using the original text and artwork.

This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form.
