Volume I, spine good, front outer hinge strong, boards rubbed, corners worn; front inner hinge cracked, contents age-toned and foxed, tissue guards good. Volume II, front outer hinge broken, boards rubbed, corners worn; front inner hinge broken, though front board remains attached, contents age-toned and foxed, tissue guards good. Collated March 27, 2022. All plates present with the exception of the frontispiece for volume I (Crystal Palace, New York), in place of which one finds Osborne, the residence of Her Majesty. Though all are present, most of the plates are misplaced: in volume I, each plate between pages 226 and 492 is to be found at the location designated in the "List of plates" for the plate immediately preceding. In volume II, each plate between that for 259 and that for page 332 [C] is bound in the location reserved for the following plate; thereafter, plates are bound in the location designated for the second plate following, and only the final plate (page 526) is correctly located. In more instances than is useful to enumerate plates are listed as facing the left hand page when the are bound facing the right, and vice-versa. 5700 grams.
