A propos de cet article

Original. Bound magazines; journals. Contemporary half black leather (spine and corners) and morocco patterned black cloth, approximately 11 x 14 inches, index, viii + 608 pp, tan marbeled edges, illustrated with black and white drawings and photographs. Hardcover, very good. Corners bumped with a bit of cardboard exposed there, a few chips off cloth on rear board, spine rebacked with black tape, front and rear hinges cracked, binder's (Conrad Lotz, Scranton Pennsylvania) label, free front endpapers creased, tanning along edges of first and last few leaves, paper lightly age yellowed, lower corners of a few adjoining leaves creased, otherwise tight, clean, paper crisp, unmarked and apparently never read. Includes article by General Henry L Abbot about the feasibility of building the Panama Canal, comparing sites there and in Nicaragua, the Greenpoint Avenue Bridge over Newtown Creek, Brooklyn (illustrated) , the safety of the Brooklyn Bridge, ethics of paving contracts and snails in the water supply in Chicago, construction of the East River Bridge (Brookln to Manhattan) , a typhoid fever outbreak in Philadelphia, the Southern Terminal Railway terminal in Boston, the subway, wireless telegraphy (radio) , new inventions, techniques, construction projects, buildings, bridges, tunnels and a host of other subjects, all presenting a nice panorama of the techniques, projects, problems, solutions and so forth of the age of enterprise. Description de la boutique

Nestled in a valley in the Endless Mountains, where the temperature can dip below freezing even in mid-June, sits Frost Pocket Farm. While our harvest of organic produce may be subject to the whims of nature, the crop of books is always a good one. The selection is as varied as the interests of its proprietor. A native of NYC, who dissipated his youth and more mature years in used bookstores and reading, as well as earning degrees in history, biology, banking and counseling plus studying 2 years at the University of Paris, he is constantly acquiring quaint and curious volumes, as well as the more mundane, on every imaginable subject. Low overhead means low prices geared towards the trade and the savvy retail client. To the extent possible, we use recycled packaging material (economy and ecology are both dervied from the same Greek root), and all books are shipped in corrugated cardboard. Every attempt is made to accurately describe the books, including their faults, and everything is completely guaranteed! (Sorry, we are strictly mail order, and due to insurance and other concerns cannot accomodate visitors.) On-line booksellers since 1996; ancient for this business!…
