204pp. Octavo [22.5 cm] Burgundy cloth over boards with a paper title label on the spine. Boards a bit dust soiled. Previous owner's name, along with several notations, on the front pastedown. Based on the magical diaries and workbooks of Doctor John Dee (1527-1609), the famous Elizabethan scientist and magus. These manuscripts describe the ceremonies that Dee performed with Edward Kelly, who claimed to see and hear angels as he gazed into a crystal stone. According to Kelly, these angels wished to re-establish the true art of Magic, which had vanished due to Man's wickedness and ignorance. They claimed that true magical art would bestow superhuman powers upon its practitioners, change the political structure of Europe, and herald the coming of the Apocalypse.
