A propos de cet article

"The Falklands dispute was an intricate political problem trapped in a cycle of political deprivation. All British governments showed a measure of responsibility for the deterioration of the dispute. But in a display of political immobility and failure of political leadership unprecedented even in the history of the Falklands, Mrs Thatcher and Lord Carrington, her Foreign Secretary, Dillon argues, were directly responsible for the collapse of British policy which precipitated the invasion. Thereafter the despatch of the British Task Force was an ultimatum due to expire when the Royal Navy reached the Falklands. Launched on a 'one-shot operation' at the limit of its capability and endurance, the passage of the Task Force became a rite of passage to war. That rite of passage ended with the sinking of the Belgrano, and Dillon argues that the Argentine cruiser was a victim of the logic of conflict.Driven by military requirements as much as by political direction Britain's military adventure became a gamble which paid off, allowing Mrs Thatcher to reap the political dividends."Ex military library stock so expect to see light wear and possible markings and annotations in the text. No Dust-jacket. Binder in poor to fair condition. V Light shelf wear. Cards partially separating from text, though mainly in tact. Hinge action workmanlike. Edges clean and sharp.
