A Heritage Press illustrated reprint edition of the Thomas Hardy's classic love story which is set in his semi-fictional "Wessex." "Far from the Madding Crowd" borrowed its title from a line in Thomas Gray's famous "Elegy Written in a Country Church-Yard." With eye-catching woodcut engraved illustrations by Agnes Miller Parker and an introduction by Robert Cantwell. Sandglass leaflet laid in (Norwalk, no. IV R: 42). --- In green cloth-covered boards with patterned Parker haystack illustrations on covers; titling in gilt on black spine block. Likely published c.1970s-80s, though 1958 date appears in book. Volume housed in olive paper-covered slipcase. --- An about-Near Fine copy in a bright, tightly-bound binding lacking damages worthy of mention. Structurally sound slipcase with plenty of sunned areas, otherwise undamaged.
