A propos de cet article

FOUND, YET LOST. By E. P. Roe (Edward Payson Roe). New York: Dodd, Mead & Company. Undated decorative cloth edition; copyright 1888 and 1892. An attractive antique hardcover in original bright red cloth, featuring elaborate silver-colored floral and ornamental stamping on the front cover and spine. The decorative front-board design surrounds an oval containing the title and author's name, with matching ornamental devices on the spine. A work of nineteenth-century American fiction by Edward Payson Roe (1838–1888), the popular novelist, clergyman, and former Union Army chaplain whose writings frequently explored themes of faith, moral responsibility, romance, and personal sacrifice. Set against the background of the American Civil War, Found, Yet Lost incorporates military experiences, wounded soldiers, hospital scenes, and the emotional consequences of war. The narrative combines historical circumstances with the romantic and moral themes characteristic of Roe's fiction. The original story appeared in 1888. This copy bears copyright dates of 1888 and 1892; its precise printing date has not been established. No first-edition claim is made. CONDITION: Good. Original red cloth hardcover with attractive silver-colored decorative stamping. Cover remains bright, with minor rubbing, scattered marks, and wear to corners and spine extremities. Decorative lettering and ornamentation remain clearly visible. Interior pages are generally clean and legible, with light age toning and occasional minor marks. Inner hinge shows exposed binding material and possible weakening. Pencil notations, including an old price, appear on the rear endpaper. No dust jacket. See photographs for details. An appealing example of decorative American publisher's binding, suitable for collectors of Victorian-era books, nineteenth-century American literature, E. P. Roe, Civil War fiction, and antique decorative hardcovers. Offered as an original historical volume, not a modern reproduction.…

Description de la boutique

Welcome to The Hidden History of Books, where every volume has a story waiting to be rediscovered. As a retired librarian with a background in scholarly research and book provenance, I specialize in rare books and first editions that span all genres — from the overlooked and obscure to the culturally iconic. My inventory is carefully sourced from estate sales and private collections, with a focus on books that carry the quiet weight of time, ownership, and intellectual legacy. I believe a book’s value lies not just in its content or rarity, but in the lives it has touched along the way — authors, owners, annotators, and collectors. That belief informs everything I do. You can count on: Conservative grading — no surprises, no exaggerations. I highlight flaws openly and describe condition with care. Detailed listings with a focus on historical and bibliographic context when available. Fast, safe shipping using USPS Media Mail and secure packaging to protect your purchase. Whether you’re a collector, a scholar, or a fellow lover of forgotten shelves, I invite you to browse the catalog and uncover the hidden histories that live between the covers.…
