"Refreshingly, Marshall manages to explore his somewhat esoteric interests without suggesting that Brown has descended into the kind of flakiness exhibited by other Sixties survivors. Financial security may have eluded him, but this unusual take on the rock biography shows him to have been immensely successful in human terms." --Times Literary Supplement, April 28, 2006

"Chronicles with i-dotting acumen the many ups and downs of this likeable cult legend... Marshall certainly gets it right, portraying him as an impulsive creative more concerned with personal development than any pop career path." --Mojo, March, 2006

**** "By means of Brown's own writings, and searching interviews, Polly Marshall uncovers a complex and compassionate character, an exceptional scholar and one-time sewage farm employee who rose to infamy and a position of great influence." --Classic Rock, March, 2006

"No-holds-barred account of psychedelic adventures in rock'n'roll"
--Port Eliot Lit Fest 2006
