A propos de cet article

4to, xviii, 340pp, 106 colour & b/w plates illustrating 102 bindings and reproductions of 560 tools, from the shops of seven binders, orig. cloth gilt. A fine bright copy in a fine dustwrapper. The text is divided into six chapters after an introductory essay on the life of Sir Edward Sullivan, the first historian of Irish bookbinding. The first three chapters are devoted to the history of the New Library, the Madden Premium Scheme and the Printing House. Two further chapters are taken up with the relationship between Trinity and the Dublin book trade and the final chapter discusses the Binders and their styles over an eighty year period. The volume concludes with the illustrated catalogue.
