The first edition was widely regarded as the definitive work on the design and fitting of gun stocks, covering the subject both practically and theoretically. The book covers shooting vision and eye dominance, stocks for game and clay shooting, as well as the use of pattern plates and the try-gun. There is also fascinating historical material that explores how the modern gun stock evolved from the poles and planks of the first hand-held firearms to the highly sophisticated designs of the modern era. For this entirely new edition, Michael Yardley has added a chapter on the fitting of rifles, a chapter on recoil and a chapter on making and finishing a shotgun stock. The book is a mine of information that makes a highly regarded book even better; it is a book that will be of great use to both amateurs and professionals.
