HISTORY OF EUROPE FROM THE COMMENCEMENT OF THE FRENCH REVOLUTION IN MDCCLXXXIX TO THE RESTORATION OF THE BOURBONS IN MDCCCXV by Archibald Alison F.R.S.E. Hardcover, fine bindings, complete in 20 volumes. Seventh edition, published in 1847-1848 by William Blackwood & Sons, Edinburgh & London. A near fine, complete set of 20 volumes in fine bindings, with half-leather and marbled boards, with five raised bands and gilt titles to spines. Frontispiece present in volume 1. Requires 24" of shelf space. Every volume bears the bookplate of Philip Lyttleton Gell, who was the British editor for the Oxford University Press from 1884 to 1896. He was also the president of the British South Africa Company from 1920 to 1923. Sir Archibald Alison, 1st Baronet, was a Scottish historian and attorney. While traveling in France he conceived the idea of writing this, the first scholarly English-language study of the French Revolution. First published as ten volumes between 1833 and 1843. It was revised and reprinted many times, including numerous non-English editions. Extra shipping will be required, depending on destination, pending your approval.…
