A 4 decorative page section between the two testaments has browning. There are decorative b/w illustrations. It has 5 entries with dates 1855, 1859, 1878 and the surnames are Vickers & Allen. New Testament with Concordance: 395 - 424 pages. ILLUSTRATIONS: These are of particular note. 12 full page colour plates, nearly all with tissue guards. The name of the lithographer beneath the colour plates shows 'Th Dupuy'. There is a 4 page section detailing all the illustrations and they are listed in three columns on each page. There is a wealth of b/w steel engravings mostly in text with a few full page. There are decorative letters at the head of each chapter. There is much background information at the base of most pages relating to explanation of text with historical information. Details and pictures of plants, coins, everyday customs etc., engage the reader. Maps in the New Testament: A large double page map titled 'Palestine illustrating The New Testament' and another full page b/w map is titled 'The Travels of St Paul & the acts of the apostles'. CONDITION: Unusually pleasing condition for a bible of this age with its bright, clean unmarked interior but for name on ffep and the 5 entries in the Family Register. There is yellow spotting and light browning on the original blank end papers at front and rear. The decorative banded spine which had become free from the front and rear boards and had suffered damage has been professionally renovated and put in place, laid on top of a new leather spine. The decorative brass corners and clasps are securely in place. This is a bible of unusual interest. The gilt edged pages are well boxed. The height is just over 12". WEIGHT: 4318 grams unpackaged.
