A propos de cet article

Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. 364pp including Index, + Preface, Contents and List of Plates. Dry-Fly Fishing in Theory and Practice (No. 1), published by Vinton & Co. Limited [1902], Fourth Edition Revised. Part of the Halford Dry Fly Series of books. Nineteen illustrations in total, including three hand-coloured and one chromolithograph illustrative plan. All In very good, crisp and clean condition. The volume by Frederic M. Halford is a foundational text on the art and science of dry-fly fishing. It was first published in 1889 and is considered the most influential book on the subject. The book systematically explores the theoretical principles and practical techniques of using artificial dry flies to imitate emerging aquatic insects and deceive trout. It emphasises the need for precise entomological observation and fly-tying to achieve realistic imitations. The book also addresses practical challenges, including the role of hatcheries in stocking club waters with surface-feeding trout strains, warning that young, artificially raised fish are particularly vulnerable to dry flies due to their conditioned behaviours. Widely considered one of the greatest works on the subject of fly-fishing published during the 19th. century. A must for any angling enthusiast. In publishers' original blue cloth boards, with gilt titles to front board and spine. Spine sunned. Head and tail crushed and worn. Corners bent. Boards have a few surface marks commensurate with age. Dyed top edge to text block. Pencil mark to top left of pastedown. Age toning to FREP. Black and white frontispiece with tissue guard; 'Landing a Trout'. Beautiful black and white illustrations (single sided glossy thicker paper stock), three hand-coloured etchings (on single sided thick card), one chromolithograph illustrative plan, alongside various in-text black and white illustrations. All pages are bright and clear with no annotations. All plates are collated and present. Please check out the Angling section for more fishing volumes, including Volume 2 in this series.
