A propos de cet article

[iv], pp. 5-76, [iv pages of advertisements]. Hard cover, red cloth covers with gold titles on cover, and black lettering on spine. Some discolouration and staining to the cloth, and some slight foxing on the front fly leaf. Otherwise, internally the book is in excellent condition, with no blemishes interfering with the text or images. In the introduction to the text, Wetherell argues that "The purpose of the pictures.is to give a more vivd idea of the scene than can readily be conveyed in words" and offers accompanying narratives and guidance for instructors on how best to use the images as a vehicle for teaching history. The illustrations in the work were done by Charles W. Jefferys (1869-1951), an English born Canadian painter, illustrator, writer, and educator. His artistic interests drew him to reproducing the natural landscape of Canada, as well as historical images from Canada's past. He began his career as a newspaper illustrator, before becoming a freelance artist, and teaching in the School of Architecture at the University of Toronto. He is one of the best known artists of images of Canadian historical events, and his images are some of the most reproduced.…
