Item description from seller

Unlined stationery, 8 x 10, 4 pages (1 page folded in half). Light soiling, fold creases else very good. In addition to board and tuition some of the other expenditures were instructions for music, drawing, French, geography, physiology, botany, supplies, i.e., drawing mats, blank books, quills, French dictionary, French bible, personal i.e., washing, shoe strings, hose, soap, dress alterations, mantuamaker, stamps and envelopes. Written in a different hand from the person who wrote up the detailed list, "Recd in full of A. Russel Esqu. Eugene A. Foucauff (sp?) Principal." Receipt with information on three sides. A. Russel is Anna Davenport Russel of Detroit, the older sister of Sarah Davenport who was 16 in 1850. Sarah's brother-in-law, Dr. George B. Russel, a Pennsylvania native, graduated from West Chester Academy in nearby Chester County. Linden Hall, founded in 1746, was a private non-denominational boarding school for girls and boys, later becoming in 1794 a girls-only school. The young ladies learned subjects like history, geography, mathematics, and for a modest fee they could take classes in drawing, painting, home economy and horticulture. Linden Hall is the oldest girls boarding school in the United States today.
