A propos de cet article

reprint edition of this compendium. Text in Latin. Half buckram binding with marbled boards. Some rubbing to the boards and a shelf label to the bottom of the spine. No titles to the spine. Slight weakness of the binding to the title page, but still holding securely. Internally sound throughout with a moderated darkening to the pages. xvi, 742 pages. This is the abridged, one-volume version of Rudolf Cornely's massive multi-volume introduction to Scripture, originally part of his larger Historica et Critica Introductio in Utriusque Testamenti Libros Sacros (published across several tomes between 1885–1897) — itself the introduction section of the Cursus Scripturae Sacrae, a huge Catholic biblical encyclopedia Cornely helped plan and largely wrote while teaching exegesis at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. The Compendium (first published around 1889/1900, with the title sometimes given as Introductionis in S. Scripturae Libros Compendium) was created to condense that sprawling scholarly work into a manageable textbook for seminarians and students, since the full multi-volume set was too large for classroom use. Like the parent work, the Compendium is divided into: Introductio generalis (general introduction) — covering the canon of Scripture, the history and transmission of the biblical text, translations and versions (Septuagint, Vulgate, etc.), the doctrine of biblical inspiration and inerrancy, and principles of interpretation/ hermeneutics. Introductio specialis (special introduction) — book-by-book treatment of the Old and New Testament writings, discussing authorship, date, sources, original language, integrity, and historical/critical questions specific to each book. 240 by 160mm (9½ by 6¼ inches).…
