A propos de cet article

1st edition 1793. Folding map, very scarce. Original full-leather calf binding, though the hinges of the covers might possibly have been replaced very seamlessly at such point. Further signs of vintage repairs to top of spine. The hinges are now a bit worn/ scraped along their vertical length, outwardly, the binding remaining firm, no internal cracking. The back cover shows some discolouration. Top front corners scuffed. Inner contents sound, overall a Vg copy. [NOTE OF INTEREST: "An earlier auction catalogue entry, pasted on the back endpapers, reads thus: Elstobb W, The Late, Engineer. An Historical Account Of The Great Level Of The Fens, Called Bedford Level, And Other Fens, Marshes And Low-Lands in this Kingdom, and other Places; With References to Leland's Itinerary, Dugdale's History of Imbanking and Draining. Lynn. 1793. Roy 8vo. Pps viii, 12, 276, 4 page book catalogue, large folding map. Original full calf, rebacked and old spine laid down, endpapers discoloured but the rest of the book clean and fresh. Written on the title in pencil is "Large Paper". I don't know if large paper and standard size editions were produced but this copy certainly has wide margins."].…
