Vol. I has some early ink underlinings and margin comments. A study of ethics in the Roman Empire from pagan to Christian times into the era of Charlemagne. It examines the impact of Christianity on morality and includes a chapter on the Position of Women. William Edward Hartpole Lecky (1838-1903) was an Irish historian and political theorist, who served as one of the MPs for Dublin University, 1895-1903.
