The American Southwest is ablaze with wildfire ... again! It seems the wildfire season is becoming longer and more intense with each passing year.
Pablo, Diane, and Phil are members of the Mimbres Springs Fire Department, a small department located in southern New Mexico. They are called into service to help fight a large campaign wildfire in northern Nevada, and eagerly jump at the chance to man their brush truck, the Triple Nickel (B555). They have fought local wildfires earlier this summer, but being called up to any large campaign fire like this Nevada fire, is like being called up to the Big Leagues!
Fighting fire is always a dangerous undertaking and the crew is aware that despite all of their training and physical conditioning, Mother Nature is immensely greater than they are, and she shows no mercy when it comes to wildfire.
Despite the risk, Pablo, Diane, and Phil know these fire assignments produce adrenaline-pumping adventure and provide fodder for some exceedingly tall tales.
Come follow the crew of the Triple Nickel and feel the heat on your face, as you are thrown into the harrowing action of initial fire attack. Experience the raucous and bawdy life of base camp, and share with them their unique and somewhat quirky perspective of what actually goes on behind the scenes on these fires.
Ride along as they befriend an Apache crew boss named Elan, an aging hippie named Bee Boo, and become annoyed with a wildland crew known as the Butter Bean Gang. Cross horns with an ornery cuss named Theodore, who refuses to evacuate his ranch in the face of an approaching fire.
Don’t pass up the chance to join them on their hair-raising, and mildly strange adventures. Be sure to pack your duffel bag, toss in some extra skivvies, plenty of strong coffee, and climb aboard the Triple Nickel. Place Mortie the lucky sock monkey on the dashboard and tighten your seatbelt, because you are in for one hell-of-a-ride!

À propos de l’auteur
Diane Vetter is a recently retired firefighter, having served with the Green Valley Fire Department in southern Arizona, for 18 years. Aside from being a firefighter, she also worked as an EMT and a Technical Rescue Technician. For 16 of those years, she was also a member of their Wildland Division.
In her life before becoming a firefighter, Diane was a four time All-American runner in track and field while attending Iowa State University and two of her cross-country teams were crowned National Champions. Vetter was inducted into the Iowa State University, Athletic Hall of Fame, Class of 2012.
Diane loves being in the out-of-doors and her avocations eventually led her to the glorious mountains. Aside from all of her running, she was an avid rock climber and mountaineer for 30 years. She still can be seen hiking down a trail or camping somewhere, regardless of weather conditions or season.
In response to the prompting of her cohorts, Vetter felt obliged to write about her experiences as a wildland firefighter. It wasn’t the high adventures or the harrowing firefights that prompted this book. She instead, wanted to shed light on the laughable escapades and the down-to-earth friendships that arose while working on those fires.
PAUL MILLER
Paul Miller has been a full time firefighter for the past 22 years. In addition, he is an engineer, hazardous materials technician, emergency medical technician (EMT), and wildland firefighter.
After leaving the Marine Corps in 1970, Paul spent the next 20 years in the marketing, advertising and graphic design profession. While still being physically fit and adventurous, his quest for new experiences motivated him to close his business in 1990, to fulfill his childhood dream of becoming a firefighter.
His desire to write grew from his advertising and technical writing background. Paul has a passion for writing and wanted to capture in words, his encounters with the many uncommon people and rare events that can only be found in the fire service. Paul’s joy in telling stories and his love for wildland firefighting inspired him to share these unbelievable stories.
Paul and his wife Sarah have called Tucson, Arizona home for the past 50 years.
