Who built Stonehenge- or should we ask- who built the different monuments that existed before it became the Stonehenge that we all recognize now? What was the purpose of this great effort, and why did it undergo such a radical transformation in its final phase? Who were these people, or groups of people who lived and died before history was ever recorded? What did they believe? What kinds of rituals or spiritual acts did they perform? What finally happened to Stonehenge?
What about the rest of Western Europe, or the East? What kinds of people lived in those lands in prehistory, and what kinds of things motivated them from the deepest levels?
"The House of the Giantess" was written as a five-essay series of meditations on these topics, and many more, done for the Cylgh An Carow Gwyn community. Drawing upon the best of modern archaeological discoveries and guided by the cutting-edge work of the mythicist, anthropologist, and researcher John Grigsby, Robin Artisson brings his intuitive insight to all of these questions and has created a daring speculative reconstruction of British and Western European prehistory and spirituality. An answer to the great puzzle of Stonehenge is proposed, which suggests many surprising things about the origins of our modern world.
Shedding light on what certainly was and what might have been, The House of the Giantess goes into detail on many topics of both theoretical and practical interest for those who wish to know more about the deep origins of Western mythologies and ancient cultures, and will be valuable for those who engage in modern-day spiritual practices that might be greatly enriched by drawing upon deeper roots.
Within this work are meditations on how our Prehistoric Ancestors may have engaged the spiritual-ecological dimension of their own lives, and by extension how we might today; how many modern well-known modern myths have their roots in the lost ages of our prehistory; a reconstruction of the British and European Neolithic, which envisions the cultures who were present then, their origins, transformations, and ultimate Fates, and how the famous monuments of Stonehenge, Bryn Celli Ddu, and others arose to embody so many of these ancient peoples' beliefs and dreams; a meditation on Neolithic art and its connection to human neurophysiology, along with certain practical instructions for utilizing these deep motifs for spiritual contemplations and other activities; and finally a lengthy and detailed reconstruction of "The Ritual of Primal Seership", a potent ritual of vision-gaining drawn from these understandings of the Neolithic sacred and many other ancient historical realities tied to the cultures of the people who built the first burial mounds and henges in Britain.
