À propos des auteurs: J. R. McNeill is professor of history at Georgetown University. The author of award–winning works in world and environmental history, he has served as president of the American Society for Environmental History and the American Historical Association. He lives in Chevy Chase, Maryland.

William H. McNeill (1917―2016) was emeritus professor of history at the University of Chicago. He is best known for The Rise of the West which won the National Book Award for history and biography in 1963.
