A propos de cet article

A handsome Victorian one-volume edition of Charles Dickens' celebrated first novel, The Posthumous Papers of the Pickwick Club, published by Chapman and Hall in 1867. Originally issued in monthly parts between 1836 and 1837, The Pickwick Papers established Dickens as one of the foremost novelists of the Victorian era. This later nineteenth-century edition was produced by his original publisher and features the engraved frontispiece after C. R. Leslie, together with numerous engraved illustrations throughout, many retaining their original tissue guards. The volume is attractively bound in a contemporary half black leather binding over marbled paper-covered boards with matching marbled endpapers. The spine is decorated in gilt with raised bands and retains its original red morocco title label, creating an attractive shelf presence. A desirable Victorian Dickens edition, ideal for collectors, libraries or readers seeking an authentic nineteenth-century printing from Dickens' original publisher. Condition: Good. Contemporary half black leather binding over marbled boards with gilt decoration and red morocco title label. The leather shows general rubbing and shelf wear, with losses to the head and foot of the spine, light cracking to the joints, and bumped corners. The marbled boards display surface wear, scuffing and a small area of loss to the rear board. Internally, the binding remains sound and secure. Contemporary ownership inscriptions appear to the preliminary leaves. Pages are generally clean with age toning and scattered foxing, more noticeable on the preliminary leaves and tissue guards. The engraved frontispiece and illustrations remain present. The text block is complete with no loose pages observed. Please study the photographs carefully, as they form part of the condition description. Shipping Notice:

Description de la boutique

Step into the world of Cranston & Perry, where every shelf holds a little history and every book has a story beyond the one printed on its pages. We seek out books with character, from time-worn editions with foxed pages, beautiful bindings and forgotten inscriptions, to collectable children’s books, literary classics, unusual finds and modern voices worth rediscovering. Some are rare. Some are wonderfully ordinary. Some have travelled through generations before reaching us. What matters is that each deserves to find the right reader and a new place on the shelf. Part antiquarian bookseller, part treasure hunter and entirely devoted to books, Cranston & Perry celebrates literature in all its forms: beautiful, rebellious, curious, scholarly, nostalgic and occasionally rather strange. Every book has a past. Every reader begins another chapter. We simply bring the two together.…
