"He received a good academical training; began the study of law, but afterwards studied theology in the Theological Seminary at Princeton, N. J.; was licensed to preach by the Presbytery of Baltimore in 1829[in 1837 he] was employed as an agent of the General Assembly's Board of Domestic Missions" - M'Clintock & Strong.
