Welcome to the world of Gunpla. If you are holding this book, chances are you have recently built your first High Grade kit straight out of the box, or perhaps you are still staring at a sprue of colourful runners, wondering where to begin. You might have followed the instruction manual perfectly, snapping pieces together with a pair of basic nippers, only to look at the final result and feel something is missing. The robot looks like the one on the box, but it does not quite feel like the ones you see in magazines, online galleries, or on competition tables.

That feeling of wanting more from your model is exactly where this book begins.

For many newcomers, the leap from assembling a plastic robot to creating a miniature work of art seems impossibly wide. Terms like "seam line removal," "panel lining," "topcoating," and "weathering" sound less like modeling techniques and more like a foreign language. The sheer volume of tools, paints, and advanced kits available can be overwhelming, and the fear of ruining an expensive kit often stops beginners from trying anything beyond the most basic assembly. This book exists to close that gap.

Practical Gundam & Gunpla Modeling for Beginners is not a gallery of unattainable masterpieces. It is a workshop manual. It has been written with the assumption that you have never held an airbrush, you are unsure what sanding sponge to buy, and you might be building on a kitchen table with a limited budget. Every chapter is built around clear, repeatable processes that prioritise small, manageable steps over artistic leaps. You will learn how to improve your straight build before ever cutting a part for modification, and you will discover that professional-looking results come from mastering a handful of simple techniques, not from natural-born talent.

The other goal of this book is practicality. While many advanced modeling guides focus exclusively on customisation, painting, and diorama building, this book acknowledges that many Gunpla builders simply want a clean, sharp-looking model that stands proudly on a shelf. You will therefore find equal attention given to fundamental assembly skills —proper nub removal, sanding, applying decals, and protecting your work with a clear coat—as you will to more advanced topics like painting, panel scribing, and basic weathering.

Whether your dream is to build a perfectly out-of-the-box Master Grade with nothing more than a pair of nippers and a panel liner, or you aspire to create a fully painted, battle-weary diorama, the techniques in this book will serve as your foundation. Each chapter builds logically on the previous one, so you can work through the book sequentially or jump directly to the skill you need right now.

Above all, remember that Gunpla is freedom. The name itself is a contraction of "Gundam plastic model," but the spirit of the hobby is the opposite of rigid rules. There is no wrong way to build a kit, as long as you are learning and enjoying the process. This book simply provides a map of proven paths. Where you go from there is entirely up to you.

So gather your tools, clear your workspace, and choose a kit you are not afraid to learn on. Let us begin turning plastic parts into something you will be proud to call your own.
