A propos de cet article

The first edition of this book was published in the USA by Prentice Hall, Inc., in 1968. This revised and enlarged edition first published in 1977. Soft cover in very good condition showing mild shelf and edge wear. Green wraps with black lettering; publishers small orange sticker to bottom left of rear wrap. Interior text block clean & tight; no writings, no markings noted. Ghost of age toning to the papers. Concludes with sections of Notes and References, Further Reading, and an Index. Size approx 8 1/2" tall x 5 1/4 'wide. 176 numbered pages. * From the rear cover, "When Professor MacDonagh's "Ireland" was first published in 1967, it was acknowledged as a notable addition to the literature available to the student interested in Irish history and development. This new edition not only uses that earlier material, which has been amended and brought up to date, but also contains a new concluding section which offers an insight into events up to 1973. This terminal date has been selected because it can be seen in two separate ways as a critical point in the Anglo-Irish political relationship. In 1972 both countries determined upon becoming members of the EEC, and the Northern Ireland parliament was suspended. The author contends that the last remnant of the Act of Union may have been placed under death-sentence then and that, if that is the case, 1972 will prove to be the closing entry in a ledger which reads, 1801, 1922, 1972.".…
