When two 8-year-old boys decided to make their summer vacation more interesting, their parents didn’t give it a second thought. But that was before their neighborhood was upset by police cars, television reporters and a warning from the County Health Department. Individually, those things and maybe even the elephants, exploding house or slushie machine might not have been news. But when all this happened in one summer, in one neighborhood, there had to be something, or someone, seriously crazy. Jay Slagle's debut novel is perfect for readers for readers ages 7 through 12. While the characters encounter countless problems, their motives are always sincere. Along the way, the characters (and the readers) learn about charity, responsibility and persistence. It's a fun-loving romp with two boys who eventually figure out that planning 'the coolest birthday party ever' will take a lot of help from their family and friends.
À propos de l?auteur: Jay Slagle is an award-winning healthcare administrator and brilliant author of children’s fiction books. Well, let’s clarify that. First, he did win one healthcare award, but it’s possible that no one else was nominated. Second, it’s really up to you to decide if he’s a brilliant author of children’s books. He hasn’t won an award for writing, but certainly if you wanted to make up an award and give it to him, then this biography would look much more impressive. It could be something like the “Miles Standish Award for Excellence in Fiction,” but he really shouldn’t have a say in what award you give him. Jay has a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a master’s degree in something completely unconnected to writing children's books. Jay lives in Omaha, Nebraska, just a few blocks away from Warren Buffett, who was once one of the richest people in the world. That won’t impress any of the kids reading this, but their parents (if they’re lawyers or accountants) will be duly impressed. Omaha is famous for its zoo, the College World Series and being the home of Jay Slagle. Well, maybe not Jay Slagle. Miracles happen every day in the world, which is probably the best explanation for why Jay has such a great wife and three wonderful kids (Jack, Greta and Henry). In fact, the kids are so cool that Jay decided to write a book about them. Jack and Noah’s Big Day is mostly true, except for the parts that aren’t. The friends in the book are real kids, but they’re definitely funnier, smarter and better looking in person. Of course, Jay started writing this book when Greta and Jack were 7 and 8, and now they’re 12 and 13. When kids become teenagers, they become evil, so depending on when you read this, it’s possible that Jay doesn’t like Jack and Greta’s friends anymore. At this point you’re probably thinking, “Boy, this guy can ramble on about anything.” And yes, it’s true. Way back in the summer of 2008, Jay started writing a chapter each night to keep Jack and his best friend Noah interested in reading. They loved reading about themselves, and so Jay kept writing. Of course, he took breaks. If a person writes non-stop, even on a computer, he eventually gets finger cramps. Man oh man, finger cramps are the worst. Jay also had to work, go to baseball games, sleep and do a couple of other things. That’s why it took him five years to finish the book. If that doesn’t seem like enough excuses, just e-mail Jay and he’ll send you a few more.
