[x], 460, [1] pp, illustrated (including several tip-ins), list of subscribers; thick 4to, quarter dark wine-colored cloth, gilt spine title, terra cotta paper sides debossed with an array of different Grolier Club devices used over the club's 125-year history. No. 186 of only 250 copies of the regular edition (there were 26 lettered copies and 3 hors commerce). Published in connection with the 125th anniversary of the founding of the Grolier Club, this massive work documents the hundreds of exhibitions mounted and publications issued over the years. The most lavish and elaborate production in the club's long history of fine printing, with numerous illustrations and tip-ins, it went out of print shortly after publication and copies remain scarce in the market. Typeset in a modified version of Giovanni Mardersteig's Monotype Dante; printed on Hahnemühle paper made in Germany; letterpress printing by Bradley Hutchinson; offset printing for the tip-ins by Thames Printing; bound by Campbell-Logan Bindery; design and production by Jerry Kelly. Planned to accompany the Grolier Club exhibition scheduled for December 9, 2008 through February 14, 2009, this volume will explore the history of the Grolier Club through its ground-breaking program of exhibitions, and its long and distinguished series of publications. The book is designed by Jerry Kelly and printed letterpress using Mardersteig's Dante type, on Hahnemuhle paper, with offset illustrations on Mohawk paper. It is an edition of 250 copies only.

À propos de l'auteur: GEORGE ONG, a lawyer for Citigroup Global Markets Inc., is by avocation a collector of rare bibliography and books about books. From Almeloveen to Whittington: Book & Manuscript Catalogues 1545-1995, featuring works from his collection, was published by the Grolier Club in 2007. ERIC J. HOLZENBERG has been Director of the Grolier Club, America's oldest and largest bibliophile society, since 1997. He has taught and lectured widely on collecting and book history, and is the author of The Middle Hill Press (1997).
