SOUNDING THE ALARM ABOUT JAPAN TAKING OVER KOREA . * Important primary source by seventeen years a missionary in Korea. Addressing the land and people, nations' present situation, beliefs, social life and customs, special providences, pioneer methods of missionaries, response of Korea, growth and outlook, with copious appendices. . Useful early resource. . *** THE AUTHOR James Scarth GALE [1863-1937]: He was a Canadian Presbyterian missionary, educator and Bible translator in Korea. See WikiPedia article for copious details. . His Legacy: Gale was talented in so many ways, his influence was great, although he was often frustrated by the rivalries, jealousies and personality clashes that too often characterized the missionary community in Korea. . His linguistic skills were essential in the work of Bible translation, while his literary and poetic sensitivity gave his writing an added charm. . He was unable to publish a considerable portion of what he wrote or translated and much remains to be published in his papers in the University of Toronto. . *** GALE WARNS THE WORLD ABOUT JAPAN'S TAKE OVER OF KOREA: Gale's warning and public broadcasting of KOREA IN TRANSITION was his exposure of Japan's pending takeover of Korea, the eradication of Korean Royalty and Oligarchy. . 1909, a year before Korea was annexed by Japan, Gale published Korea in Transition which focusses mainly on the changes in Korean society introduced by the work of the Protestant missions. . Gale wrote several other excellent books on Korea, please visit our website to see them and other books about Korea. . *** THE IMPRINT VARIANTS: .
