For courses in College Success, pre-Nursing and intro-nursing.
This innovative text/workbook is designed to help entry-level students understand the various aspects and opportunities of the profession of nursing while allowing them to develop both personal management and academic skills necessary to succeed in a nursing school program. It covers a full range of topics–from exploring the opportunities of the nursing profession to discovering personal learning styles, values, and goals. It teaches how to manage one's time, relationships, and money; and allows students to develop critical skills in reading, studying, thinking, note-taking and writing, listening, test-taking, and lab work.

After several careers that include work as a family-planning counselor in central Massachusetts; research assistant at the University of Washington in Seattle; horseshoer in Palouse, WA; and stage technician at Washington State University, she became a registered nurse. She lives in Spokane, WA, with her husband, who teaches biology, and their two dogs.
Carol Carter is president of LifeBound, Seminars and Coaching for High School Students, College Students, and Graduates. Her syndicated column, Hire Education, appears in newspapers around the country.
Joyce Bishop holds a PhD in psychology and has taught for more than 20 years, receiving a number of honors, including Teacher of the Year. For the past four years she has been voted "favorite teacher" by the student body and Honor Society at Golden West College, Huntington Beach, CA, where she has taught since 1986 and is a tenured professor. She is currently working with a federal grant to establish learning communities and workplace learning in her district, and has developed workshops and trained faculty in cooperative learning, active learning, multiple intelligences, workplace relevancy, learning styles, authentic assessment, team building, and the development of learning communities. In that capacity she helped to formulate both curricular and organizational elements of the program, working closely with instructors as well as members of the business community.
