A propos de cet article

Description :

From Wikipedia: "He Knew He Was Right is an 1869 novel written by Anthony Trollope which describes the failure of a marriage caused by the unreasonable jealousy of a husband exacerbated by the stubbornness of a willful wife. As is common with Trollope's works, there are also several substantial subplots. Trollope makes constant allusions to Shakespeare's Othello throughout the novel. Trollope considered this work to be a failure; he viewed the main character as unsympathetic, and the secondary characters and plots as much more lively and interesting, but it is one of his best known novels." This set is very good+ in 1/2 leather on marbled boards with gilt titles and designs on the spines. Marbled page edges all around. Minor scuffing on the covers, primarily at the edges. They appear to have new marbled endpapers but are otherwise contemporary 19th century. Bindings are quite sound. Text is age-toned, with light scattered foxing, primarily on the endpapers, but no other marks of damage at all. The personal bookplates of Jeremiah James Colman are affixed to both front pastedowns. Jeremiah James Colman (1830 - 1898) was an English mustard manufacturer and the third member of the family in charge of the eponymous company Colman's. He was a popular philanthropist in his home town of Norwich and a Liberal politician who represented the city in parliament. When he was asked how he had made a fortune out of such a humble product, he replied "I make my money from the mustard that people throw away on the sides of their plate" . SW22.
