In 1928, Graveure decided to sing tenor roles though critical reactions were mixed. He taught singing at Michigan State University before emigrating to Berlin in 1931. He primarily sang 5 roles, those of Faust, Rodolfo, Pagilacci, Don Jose and Lohengrin and and also made 4 films including one with Camilla Horn with whom he had a liaison. Graveure left Berlin for Paris before war broke out and, claiming he was a spy, the Gestapo searched Horn's home and destroyed her car seeking nonexistent incriminating material. He fled France in 1940 and ended up in England. He returned to the United States with his new wife Patricia and daughter Viola in 1947 but was unable to make much of a comeback.
