This classic guide to beekeeping was originally penned in the 1850s by Lorenzo Lorraine Langstroth (1810-1895), the father of American beekeeping and inventor of the Langstroth Hive, a revolutionary implementation of the concept of bee space and hive structure still in use today. 8" X 5 3/4". x, 575pp. Bound in deep forest green cloth over boards, with title and stripe of honeycomb cells stamped in gilt to upper board, with spine lettered and decorated in a swarm of bees above their hive in dimmed gilt to spine. Rather heavy wear to binding, with fading to spine, small tears to head and tail, hard bumping to corners, and scattered scuffing and soiling to cloth. Slight lean to spine. Inner front hinge starting to crack, reinforced with archival adhesive. Hint of binding strings at gutters of some pages. Binding remains quite sound.
