8°. Mit 2 farb. lith. Tafeln u. 3 gef. Karten. 15 SS. Br. mit Rückenfalz (vereinzelt minimal braunfleckig). The Battle of Forts Jackson and St. Philip (April 1828, 1862) was the decisive battle for possession of New Orleans in the American Civil War. The two Confederate forts on the Mississippi River south of the city were attacked by a Union Navy fleet. As long as the forts could keep the Federal forces from moving on the city, it was safe, but if they were negated, there were no fall-back positions to impede the enemy advance. With following plates: 1) The Ram "Manassas" as she appeared in passing the "Harriet Lane" after receiving a broadside from the "Mississippi" (colour printed, Brown & Co lith. Philadelphia); 2) The Ram "Louisiana" as she appeared previous to the explosion (colour printed, Brown & Co lith. Philadelphia); and following maps: 1) Plan of Fort Jackson showing the effect of the Bombardment by the U. S. Mortar Flotilla and Gunboats . (ca. 27 x 42 cm); 2) General Sketch of Approaches to New Orleans. From the Charts of the U. S. Coast Survey (ca. 32 x 29 cm); 3) Reconnoissance of the Mississippi River below Forts Jackson and St. Philip made previous to the reduction by the U. S. Fleet under the command of Flag officer D. G. Farragut . by the party under the direction of F. H. Gerdes . (ca. 23 x 42 cm). N° de réf. du vendeur R76424
