Green cloth, significantly mildewed, bumped, rubbed and scratched to surfaces, the edges curved and with damage to top and bottom of spine. Gilt lettering to spine. Binding still intact, with a forward lean. Endpapers with significant damp stain in top corner, extending to p. 11. Pastedowns and endpapers with list of Methuen's Colonial Library titles. Foxing to prelims. xiv, 311pp. + 41pp.of publisher's advertisements. Illustration opposite p.250 loose and a little proud of the page block. Occasional mild foxing, otherwise contents clean. Adequate reading copy but not pretty. George Horace Lorimer (October 6, 1867 October 22, 1937) was an American journalist and author. He is best known as the editor of The Saturday Evening Post. During his editorial reign, the Post rose from a circulation of several thousand to over a million. He is credited with promoting or discovering a large number of American writers, e.g. Jack London. Letters from a Self-Made Merchant relates the fictitious correspondence of John Graham, a wealthy Chicago pork packer, to his son.
