Item description from seller

Vintage Antique 1900 The Library of Historic Characters and Famous Events of All Nations and All Ages - Volume IV, Testimonial Edition – Limited to 1,000 Copies. This is # 507. Step back into the golden age of historical publishing with this exceptional antique volume from 1900. This is Volume IV of The Library of Historic Characters and Famous Events of All Nations and All Ages, published by J. B. Millet of Boston as part of the prestigious Limited Testimonial Edition, limited to 1,000 numbered copies. This volume is hand-numbered “507” in red copy pencil on the limitation page, consistent with early 20th-century publisher or bookseller practice. Produced at the dawn of the 20th century, this volume showcases remarkable craftsmanship, featuring: Sturdy cloth binding Gilt spine titling Several uncut pages Thick, deckle-edged pages Illustrated photogravure plates after great artists and authentic portraits The contents span centuries of world history, profiling legendary rulers, military leaders, philosophers, and revolutionaries — from Frederick the Great and Saladin to Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton — making this both a scholarly reference and a stunning display piece. A genuine 126-year-old antique, not a modern reprint. This volume was never meant to be disposable — it was created for private libraries, collectors, and institutions, and it shows. ✨ Perfect for collectors of antique books, early 20th-century publishing, historical reference works, or anyone building a serious vintage library. 🕰️ Collector Notes Uncut pages are not damage — they indicate the book was never fully read and remains close to its original issued state. Collectors of antiquarian books often prefer uncut copies for their historical integrity. This volume would appeal to: Antiquarian book collectors History enthusiasts Display or library décor collectors Those assembling or replacing volumes from this historic series Subject Matter: Biographical and historical narratives covering major world figures and pivotal events, including: Frederick the Great Henry IV of Germany Gregory VII Peter the Hermit Richard the Lionheart John Adams Thomas Jefferson Alexander Hamilton …and many more Antique condition consistent with age (circa 1900). Cloth boards are intact with visible age-related wear, including surface discoloration and mild rippling/bubbling to the rear cover. Inside of the rear cover has mild bubbling as well (last picture). Spine shows shelf wear and edge rubbing; title label remains present with wear. Front inner hinge is split/starting at the joint (inside front cover); binding remains intact. Interior pages are complete with original deckle (untrimmed) edges; several pages remain unopened. Paper exhibits uniform age toning. Some pages show small edge tears and short separations near the inner margins (gutter), typical of early 20th-century bindings. No pages are loose or detached, and the text block remains securely bound. Limited edition “Testimonial Edition,” copy number 507 handwritten in red on the limitation page (not signed).Overall a solid, unrestored antique copy with honest wear and desirable original characteristics. This is an original antique book from 1900, not a reprint or facsimile. Due to its age and fragility, it is sold as-is and returns will not be accepted. Do not hesitate to message us with questions.
