A propos de cet article

EL LIBRO DEL NUEVO REINO, VISION DE COLOMBIA OR THE NEW KINGDOM BOOK, A VISION OF COLOMBIA, Joaquin Piñeros Corpas, hardcover with dust jacket [price never printed on flap], bilingual text (English and Spanish), illustrated with photos by Hernan Diaz, 1966. BOOK CONDITION: good. The text block and illustrations are in fine condition, with no tears, dogears, or marks. Foxing on upper edge. There is no bookplate nor signature of a prior owner. Not a library book or remainder. The gray cloth boards are in good condition (a few corners bumped; spine lightly bumped). The dust jacket is in fair condition (edge chipping, wear, a few small tears). 9 x 6 ¼, 179 pages, 18 ounces. XX [From the inner flaps] The Editorial Voluntad believes that this work will aid greatly in answering the questions that foreigners, and Colombians themselves, ask when they look at a map of the country, or observe the various facets of Colombian life. What are the characteristics of the Colombian nation? What sort of people are these? What is the country's real economic potential? What are the essential aspects of its culture? What is its position in international affairs, especially in the closely pertinent affairs of Latin America? This book, of course, offers no encyclopedic detail. Within the large panorama only the principal details can be mentioned. But these will satisfy the curiosity of the foreigner, and for the Colombian himself, the book is a handy compendium of the basic facts that he should know about his own land and people. This is, above all, a book written in a spirit of optimistic realism, in which things are presented objectively but always in the light of the powerful and hopeful national spirit that springs from awareness of its geographical, cultural and human resources. XX JOAQUIN PIÑEROS CORPAS, a lawyer by profession, graduate of the National University o/ Colombia, has dedicated his intellectual life to three fruitful fields of action: teaching, diplomacy, and academic activities. A disciple of Antonio Gomez Restrepo, whose chair of Classical Authors he later occupied at the Colegio del Rosario, formerly Dean of Studies at the University of the Andes, Director of the Commission for Educational Interchange, at present directs the program in History of Spanish-American Culture in the Seminar Andrés Bello of the Instituto Caro y Cuervo in Bogotá. As a member of the Foreign Service of Colombia he has held, among other posts, those of Charge' d' Affaires in Argentina, Belgium, Venezuela and the Vatican, General Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Ambassador to Canada. He is a member of the Colombian Academy of Language, and a correspondent of the Royal Spanish Academy and the Colombian Academy of History, and Executive Secretary of the Supreme College of Academies of Colombia.…
