Jorge Semprun's powerful and moving novel is drawn from his own experiences of life in the concentration camp at Buchenwald following his arrest for activities in the French Resistance, and the time before and after. This is a compelling story of one man's struggle to write a book created from obsessions and images that returned to him again and again like themes in a nightmarish rhapsody.
