This reorganization presents a definition of the reading skill followed by three sections: a section on assessing the skill, a section on teaching the skill, and a section on how the skill might affect English language learners. The balance of the text consists of Assessment Appendices, which house every classroom assessment tool that a busy classroom teacher needs for screening or monitoring students' literacy progress. Each assessment resource is briefly identified by purpose and offers both the assessment tool for the student and the data collection tool for the teacher.
