Description :

Ex-library markings (chiefly to front attached endpaper, title page and preliminaries); wear to covers (leather over boards; chiefly to spine edges, lower edges and corners, with scuffed midsections of boards); starting to inner hinges, with tape repair; previous owner's ink signature on front free endpaper; slight internal browning and/or foxing (chiefly to edges). xxxix, [1], 450 pages + plates. Spine title: Byron and His Contemporaries. First volume only of the so-called "cheaper edition" of the memoir of the circle surrounding Byron, Keats, Shelley, and others by the author of "Abou Ben Adhem", with his 2 prefaces. Lacking the facsimile illustrations (reproductions of the holograph hands of Byron, Shelley and Keats), but still containing the frontispiece of Byron (from the painting by Holmes, engraved by H. Meyer) and the portraits of Keats and the Countess Guiccioli. Notable for the included correspondence of both Byron and Shelley with Hunt. BMC, volume 12, page 931, column 393; "Second Edition" (title page recto). One volume only, bound in 3/4 dark brown morocco over brown cockerell boards, gilt-stamped spine with partly raised bands, covers double-ruled in blind, plain endpapers, all edges stained brown. Still a fairly tight reading copy internally. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" Tall (thin). N° de réf. du libraire L073935
